Discover the Secret Life of Bees!

Through lecture and Q&A, local beekeeper, Randy Sue Collins, will take you inside the beehive to meet and greet our fuzzy friends so that you may better understand these amazing animals and why the planet depends on them for survival.

After the talk, there will be a short, walking tour uncovering several hidden beehives in the neighborhood, some wild, some not.

Wear comfortable shoes!

Toning Gathering
August 8 10am to 2pm

It is soon time to meet for collective sound healing! Let’s share voices together. This gathering will focus on harmony, listening, and ease.

Beginning with simple ‘trance posture’ we will explore contemplative vocalizing. There is a Great Song of Creation that vibrates all ‘this’ into being. We can sing back. And sing for each other, as we tone for ourselves.

Easy, no previous skill necessary, just come be with some great people.

Join us for the experience of Reiki Sunday, July 12th from 6 – 8 pm at California Institute of Massage & Spa Services at 772 West Napa Street in Sonoma.

Our wonderful Reiki instructor, Brenda Siemering, has established a once a month, opportunity for our community called Reiki Circle. Reiki Circle is open to everyone including anyone who would like to practice their Reiki skills, anyone who may have an interest in Reiki or anyone who just wants to receive this relaxing energy treatment. There is no established fee for the gathering however a donation is requested.

We hope to see you there! You are welcome to just show up and bring who ever you want. Children are welcome as long as they bring one of their parents with them.

TONG REN SELF HEALING CLASS TUESDAY NIGHT

Class: Tong Ren Self Healing Class Series being held at California Institute of Massage & Spa Services at 772 West Napa Street across from the library.
Dates: Tuesday, July 14th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm and continues every other Tuesday evening.
Time: Every other Tues., 6:30-7:30 pm.
Cost: There is no established fee for the gathering however a donation is requested.
Instructors: Acupuncturists Phil Madden & Jennifer Jensen

Tong Ren was developed by a Qi Gong master in Boston named Tom Tam who found that acupuncture done off the body was more effective than acupuncture done on the body. He started using acupuncture “dolls” that had the meridians and points drawn on them by tapping them with a magnetic mallet. He found that you could provide general acupuncture opening and tonifying treatment on an entire group of people simultaneously. His results were so impressive, he caught the attention of Fox News and was featured on a program, along with many of his students and clients that had healed from stage 4 cancers.

So we invite you to experience this very fascinating and effective form of healing starting this Tuesday. We will start with about 20 minutes of light movement (Qi Gong) and then devote the rest of the time to the Tong Ren. You can sit or lie in meditation and just receive while Phil and Jennifer tap on the acupuncture meridians providing everyone a simultaneous acupuncture treatment.

Tuesday, August 11th, 4 p.m. Mystery Tea with *Rhys Bowen, Ann Parker and Juliet Blackwell.*. Join us for tea with some of California’s most delightful and distinguished mystery writers. They have all written mystery series featuring female sleuths. Rhys Bowen’s latest is “Royal Flush.” and takes place in 1930s England. Ann Parker has written a series set in Colorado in the 1880s and Juliet Blackwell’s heroine is a witch in hiding who runs a vintage clothing store in San Francisco.

Thursday, August 13th, 7:30 p.m. *Mark Sloan*, “Birth Day.” California pediatrician Mark Sloan has helped deliver more than 3,000 babies and he marvelously captures both the joys and anxieties of childbirth while treating readers to an informed and captivating history of the medical practices surrounding birth in America.

Thursday, August 27th, 7:30 p.m. *Len Saputo*, ” A Return to Healing: Radical Health Care Reform and the Future of Medicine.” Len Saputo has been a frontline witness to the failure of America’s health care system and he has many insights into how to make it work for all of us. Much of his work focuses on healing and wellness strategies rather than disease.

My favorite day in Sonoma is quickly approaching! If you have never been to Sonoma’s 4th of July parade, you are in for a treat.

The parade is sponsored by the Sonoma Community Center. Here is the schedule from their website:

Thousands of people show up and parking can be a challenge, so be prepared to walk a bit from your car.

Traditionally, there is a water fight between the citizens (with balloons) and the fire department (with their truck) along First Street West near the Steiner’s Tavern.

This is just another part of this wonderful day. It is quite fun to watch. One of my favorite memories of the parade is looking up and seeing 50 or more colorful balloons in the air with the bright blue sky behind them. Mind you, I was making my way AWAY from the target zone at the time!

If you don’t want to get wet, don’t sit in this area.

Come to think of it, I haven’t seen anyone get wet along First Street East. That may be more of a ‘dry zone.’

The parade will likely last two hours or more.

Personal Sound Healing

Margy Henderson invites you to participate in a Toning Experience

Toning is an immediate form of self-help. In any moment we have an option for feeling better. Our own voices, released from constiction, vibrate whatever healing tones are intuitively appropriate to ‘re-set’ the system in which we find ourselves.

Consider the posibility that there was an Original Song of Creation. All matter (including us and our circumstances) arose from Sound. “In the beginning was the song”

All original people of the planet remembered their Creation Songs and passed them down for thousands of years. These songs not only described what brought them into being, but included the Geography of the Land. This is how they could travel from the Inka trail to the Valley of the Moon, from Mt Shasta to the Ocean. The map was in the songs.

Our personal geography, a sense of being in place and time, can be guided by listening with an inner ear to the Original Song, which is outside of space and time. Somehow, by listening and singing, we come to understand that we are a system of earth elements, animated by Light, Consciousness, Love, and Order. The ongoing Creation Song has no time and space restrictions. The big bang of original sound is a pulse wave of Now.

The Songs also held the Moral Code. There is a natural rythmn to a balanced life in Common. When we were warming and cooking at the fires, we also used drum and song to teach, celebrate and Vision. The altered states of Consciousness that arise in commonly held song and rythmn are an invitation for Guidance toward the well-being of the whole group.

It is a radical act to gather for common good, and to bring our personal energy into the mix. We each feel all the better in the shared song.

Maybe modern culture has been bent into submission by commercial jingles and by performance anxiety, but there are many who are ready to explore what is our individual responsibility: Presence. One method of engagemant at this level is to use the voice in a surrendered way. Sing sounds that feel like the Truth of you in the moment. These sounds might initially seem rough, or reflect the difficulties of our circumstances. But they tend to resolve into beauty, into resonance, into a strengthening vibration that heals. We really are naturally built for toning as personal healing that draws us back into harmony with wholeness.

Listening to the truth of ourselves leads us to an even deeper truth: We share the Integrity of the whole.

Heard fully only by the original Consciousness, the orchestra of all matter is a glorious thing. And we are each a destination point in the whole cosmology. We each bring our attention to some part of the Whole each time we are Present to our circumstances. (circum…the circle around our stance, where we are now)

Just look around you right now, bring your attention to something that attracts your interst, and engage with it; love something. And be open to It loving you back.

And here is what is so comforting to me: It seems likely that the most respsonse-able I can be is to listen, listen, listen to what is Singing me Alive each Moment. And sing along.

This Toning Class is like warming ourselves around the common cooking fire. And singing ourselves into rememberance of who we really are.
