at the Center of the Universe Café
Bring your Food for Thought to the Café at the Center of the Universe, the Sonoma Community Center’s monthly open mic evening, held on Saturday, July 7 in Andrews Hall. This month’s suggested theme, “Food for Thought,” invites participants to bring poems, songs, or stories that celebrate favorite foods, cooking, gardens and gardening or sharing meals.
The guest chefs will be Bear Flag Social Club producer, Ken Brown and volunteers from the Sonoma Garden Park community garden. The menu includes:
BBQ’d salmon, fresh summer vegetables, couscous,
and ice cream sundaes!

The public is invited to sign up for the open mic portion of the evening, featuring 25 five-minute segments of poetry, spoken word, music and song. Participants are encouraged to time pieces in advance to stay within the five minute limit. The selection process is random though volunteers are assured of early time slots.

Bassist Steve Shain will accompany readers with a backbeat, if they wish. Acoustic guitars are welcome, but, please no personal amplifiers.

This month’s guest MC will be Sonoma poet Diane Rawicz. She was the co-founder and past producer of the Marin Theater Company, “Eden 2”. The evening, coordinated by local poet Lin Marie deVincent and Ken Brown, benefits programs held at the Sonoma Community Center.
