In The Political Mind, New York Times best-selling author George Lakoff explains the science behind how we make political decisions.  Lakoff writes that human beings are not the rational creatures we’ve so long imagined ourselves to be. This passionate, erudite, and groundbreaking book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in how the mind works, how society works, and how they work together.

Dr. George Lakoff is the co-founder and Senior Fellow of the Rockridge Institute.  A Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, he previously taught at Harvard University and the  University of Michigan. Dr. Lakoff is the author of the influential book, Moral Politics: How Liberals and  Conservatives Think, as well as Don’t Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values, Frame the Debate (2004), Whose  Freedom? (2006), and Thinking Points (2006). He is regularly interviewed in the public media and has appeared on such radio shows as Talk of the Nation, To the Best of  Our Knowledge, and Forum with Michael Krasny.

Spend a wonderful afternoon with friends on the Sonoma Community Center’s front lawn, enjoying a delicious salad from locally-grown produce on a one-of-a-kind handmade plate, which you get to take home!

The ceramic artists at the Community Center invite the public to join them for the inaugural “Salad Plate Special” fundraiser. Each of our ceramics studio patrons has been challenged to create ten plates to be donated to the Center for this special event. This benefit is intended to highlight Sonoma’s bountiful spring harvest and to raise money to support the Community Center arts education programs.

$30 donation, includes your choice of one hand-crafted salad plate and the salad to fill it!

Parade begins at 10:00am.
Music performances featuring Crossfire and Carlos Herrera as well as all other festivities until 5:00pm
Fireworks display at dusk.

Readers’ Books, in partnership with the Sonoma Community Center, invites you to enjoy delicious food refreshments with a wine and beer bar, a live auction, raffles, and musical performances – all to benefit the Reading Garden.

Ages 6-12
Over the course of summer, kids will be given the opportunity to explore art
and artists throughout the ages, from prehistoric to pop art, working in a
variety of disciplines including mixed media, drawing, painting, ceramics,
fiber art, print making, and so much more!
