Toning Gathering – August 8 – Sonoma

Toning Gathering
August 8 10am to 2pm

It is soon time to meet for collective sound healing! Let’s share voices together. This gathering will focus on harmony, listening, and ease.

Beginning with simple ‘trance posture’ we will explore contemplative vocalizing. There is a Great Song of Creation that vibrates all ‘this’ into being. We can sing back. And sing for each other, as we tone for ourselves.

Easy, no previous skill necessary, just come be with some great people.

If you would like to come, please reply email or call Margy at 707-938-8334

Event location: Margy’s house, 945A West Spain, Sonoma, CA

Hum or sing on the way.

Dress comfortably; bring slippers or sox and a journal.

Suggested donation: $30 (please come, donate what you can)

Everyone is welcome to stay afterward to eat any lunch you bring. That’s when you’ll want to socialize with the amazingly wonderful people who have been healing you during the circle.

DIRECTIONS: Map quest to Hwy 12 and 945 West Spain. I am across from the Blue Moon Saloon. Walk through carport to white house behind the yellow one.

Sonoma 4th of July Parade, 10am

My favorite day in Sonoma is quickly approaching!  If you have never been to  Sonoma’s 4th of July parade, you are in for a treat.

The parade is sponsored by the Sonoma Community Center.  Here is the schedule from their website:

2009 Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration
A Salute to
Our Community Traditions
With wine sponsor Robledo Family Winery
Saturday, July 4Schedule of Events
10:00am – Parade begins
11:30am – Hometown Band Concert
12:00pm – Patriotic Ceremony
12:15pm – The Fondettes perform
Live music on the lawn:
1:00pm – Thin One Man
3:00pm – The Sean Carscadden Trio

Thousands of people show up and parking can be a challenge, so be prepared to walk a bit from your car.

Traditionally, there is a water  fight between the citizens (with balloons) and the fire department (with their truck) along First Street West near the Steiner’s Tavern.

This is just another part of this wonderful day.  It is quite fun to watch.  One of my favorite memories of the parade is looking up and seeing 50 or more colorful balloons in the air with the bright blue sky behind them.  Mind you, I was making my way AWAY from the target zone at the time!

If you don’t want to get wet, don’t sit in this area.

Come to think of it, I haven’t seen anyone get wet along First Street East.  That may be more of a ‘dry zone.’

The parade will likely last two hours or more.

See you there!

TONING CIRCLE – June 28th in Sonoma

Personal Sound Healing

June 28, Noon to 4 pm

Margy Henderson invites you to participate in a Toning Experience

Toning is an immediate form of self-help. In any moment we have an option for feeling better. Our own voices, released from constiction, vibrate whatever healing tones are intuitively appropriate to ‘re-set’ the system in which we find ourselves.

Consider the posibility that there was an Original Song of Creation. All matter (including us and our circumstances) arose from Sound. “In the beginning was the song”

All original people of the planet remembered their Creation Songs and passed them down for thousands of years. These songs not only described what brought them into being, but included the Geography of the Land. This is how they could travel from the Inka trail to the Valley of the Moon, from Mt Shasta to the Ocean. The map was in the songs.

Our personal geography, a sense of being in place and time, can be guided by listening with an inner ear to the Original Song, which is outside of space and time. Somehow, by listening and singing, we come to understand that we are a system of earth elements, animated by Light, Consciousness, Love, and Order. The ongoing Creation Song has no time and space restrictions. The big bang of original sound is a pulse wave of Now.

The Songs also held the Moral Code. There is a natural rythmn to a balanced life in Common. When we were warming and cooking at the fires, we also used drum and song to teach, celebrate and Vision. The altered states of Consciousness that arise in commonly held song and rythmn are an invitation for Guidance toward the well-being of the whole group.

It is a radical act to gather for common good, and to bring our personal energy into the mix. We each feel all the better in the shared song.

Maybe modern culture has been bent into submission by commercial jingles and by performance anxiety, but there are many who are ready to explore what is our individual responsibility: Presence. One method of engagemant at this level is to use the voice in a surrendered way. Sing sounds that feel like the Truth of you in the moment. These sounds might initially seem rough, or reflect the difficulties of our circumstances. But they tend to resolve into beauty, into resonance, into a strengthening vibration that heals. We really are naturally built for toning as personal healing that draws us back into harmony with wholeness.

Listening to the truth of ourselves leads us to an even deeper truth: We share the Integrity of the whole.

Heard fully only by the original Consciousness, the orchestra of all matter is a glorious thing. And we are each a destination point in the whole cosmology. We each bring our attention to some part of the Whole each time we are Present to our circumstances. (circum…the circle around our stance, where we are now)

Just look around you right now, bring your attention to something that attracts your interst, and engage with it; love something. And be open to It loving you back.

And here is what is so comforting to me: It seems likely that the most respsonse-able I can be is to listen, listen, listen to what is Singing me Alive each Moment. And sing along.

This Toning Class is like warming ourselves around the common cooking fire. And singing ourselves into rememberance of who we really are.

Experience and practice TONING, a gently powerful method of supporting ourselves and others with intuitive sounds.

This four hour workshop is led by Margy Henderson who has, for many years, used sound for healing, end of life comfort, meditation and ritual.

Join this circle of open hearted explorers. Any level of experience is plenty. It’s remarkable how effective TONING is by its Nature. Our willingness to open our mouths and allow sounds to emerge, while keeping our ear to how we feel in our own bodies and generous hearts, is all it takes to co-create a non-performance healing chorus. It’s fun. It is transformative.

Tito La Rosa Bio:

Tito La Rosa, a descendent of Quechua Indians of the Peruvian Andes, has for more than a decade, has been recovering and preserving, studying, and intuiting the ancestral music of Peru.

La Rosa was asked by the Peruvian Institute of Culture to play 2,000-year-old instruments at the Museum of the Lord of Sipan to reinvent the sounds these instruments made. In recreating the sounds of this culture that had disappeared into time, La Rosa stated “Time, like death, is a lie.”

Experimenting with the sounds of these 2000-year-old musical instruments, speaking with the archeologists, listening to the sounds of the wind and the murmuring of the birds when flying, La Rosa was deeply moved by this acoustical and magical mochican world, resulting in new “ancient” compositions.

Featured guest artist on New Age superstar Kitaro’s 2001 Grammy-winning CD “Thinking of You,” La Rosa has toured with Kitaro in Japan. Kitaro has said of La Rosa, “His attraction to the Spirit dimension and his love of all things from the natural world allow him to traverse musical landscapes with tranquility and deep passion.” La Rosa has also recorded with Mary Youngblood on his Silver Wave record label (, of which BILLBOARD Magazine says: “La Rosa and Youngblood interweave North and South American winds like smoke..” La Rosa’s 2002 CD, “The Prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor” was nominated for a Native American Music Award, for Best World Music Recording.

Tito is also a Curandero de Sonido, a Shaman of Music. When performing ritual and ceremony for healing, he enters into an altered state to bring forth sound that elevates the frequency of an individual and allows for healing and balance to occur.

La Rosa was a main presenter at the International Conference on Traditional Instruments in Contemporary Music, sponsored by the French Government. He also took part in “Heart and Hands: Musical Instrument Makers of America,” a Smithsonian traveling exhibit.
