Plaza Celebration begins at 9:00am.
Parade begins at 10:00am.
Music performances featuring Crossfire and Carlos Herrera as well as all other festivities until 5:00pm
Fireworks display at dusk.

A Reading Garden Fundraising Event

The foundation has been laid, but there are a few more chapters to be written before the book can be closed on a completed Reading Garden.

Readers’ Books, in partnership with the Sonoma Community Center, invites you to enjoy delicious food refreshments with a wine and beer bar, a live auction, raffles, and musical performances – all to benefit the Reading Garden.

Over the course of summer, kids will be given the opportunity to explore art
and artists throughout the ages, from prehistoric to pop art, working in a
variety of disciplines including mixed media, drawing, painting, ceramics,
fiber art, print making, and so much more!

Hooked on Phonics™ Kindergarten Jump Start Program
Our Kindergarten prep program utilizes award-winning Hooked on Phonics™ programs to give your child the academic edge for starting kindergarten. Through its proven methods and step-by-step approach, HOP™ will teach your child about letter sounds and how to put them together to form words, as well as learn number recognition, counting, and addition and subtraction. Because children learn in different ways, a variety of multisensory tools that appeal to all types of learners are used. Open House: July 12, 9:30am – 10:30am, Room 210

Together Time Toddler Program
Our toddler program is a “preschool preparation” program for children ages two and three years old with a parent. The goal of the program is to introduce children to a structured environment and ease their transition to preschool while having the security of Mommy or Daddy.

In The Political Mind, New York Times best-selling author George Lakoff explains the science behind how we make political decisions.  Lakoff writes that human beings are not the rational creatures we’ve so long imagined ourselves to be. This passionate, erudite, and groundbreaking book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in how the mind works, how society works, and how they work together.

Dr. George Lakoff is the co-founder and Senior Fellow of the Rockridge Institute.  A Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, he previously taught at Harvard University and the  University of Michigan. Dr. Lakoff is the author of the influential book, Moral Politics: How Liberals and  Conservatives Think, as well as Don’t Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values, Frame the Debate (2004), Whose  Freedom? (2006), and Thinking Points (2006). He is regularly interviewed in the public media and has appeared on such radio shows as Talk of the Nation, To the Best of  Our Knowledge, and Forum with Michael Krasny.

Spend a wonderful afternoon with friends on the Sonoma Community Center’s front lawn, enjoying a delicious salad from locally-grown produce on a one-of-a-kind handmade plate, which you get to take home!

The ceramic artists at the Community Center invite the public to join them for the inaugural “Salad Plate Special” fundraiser. Each of our ceramics studio patrons has been challenged to create ten plates to be donated to the Center for this special event. This benefit is intended to highlight Sonoma’s bountiful spring harvest and to raise money to support the Community Center arts education programs.

$30 donation, includes your choice of one hand-crafted salad plate and the salad to fill it!
